Sewing Thread Cone Meters Calculator
Find out how many meters of thread in a cone with this quick calculator for stitching units and garment factories. Use the free Sewing Thread Cone Meters Calculator below — enter your values and get instant results, right in your browser. Total meters = (Cone weight in grams × 1000) ÷ Thread tex. Usable meters = Total meters × (1 − Wastage ÷ 100). Tex is defined as grams per 1000 meters, so dividing the cone's grams-per-1000m equivalent by tex gives the length.
How to use the Sewing Thread Cone Meters Calculator
Garment factories and stitching units plan production by thread length, but cones are sold by weight. This calculator converts a cone's net weight in grams into meters of thread using the thread's tex value, then subtracts your expected wastage percentage. Knowing exactly how many meters of thread in a cone helps you cost garments accurately, avoid mid-order thread shortages, and compare cone prices from different suppliers on a per-meter basis.
- Weigh the cone without its plastic wrapping and enter the net weight in grams in the Cone net weight field.
- Enter the thread tex from the cone label or supplier sheet in the Thread tex field (common values: 24, 27, 40, 60).
- Enter your expected wastage percentage — 5% is typical for cutting-room and sewing losses.
- Click Calculate to see the total meters on the cone and the usable meters after wastage.

Frequently asked questions
Tex is the weight in grams of 1000 meters of thread — a standard measure printed on the cone label or supplier invoice. Lower tex means finer thread. If only the ticket number (like Tkt 120) is given, ask your supplier for the tex equivalent.
Without packaging. Remove the plastic wrap and the cardboard tube if possible, because the tool assumes the grams entered are pure thread. Including packaging inflates the meter count.
Most stitching units use 3–7%. Use 5% for normal woven garments and 7–10% for knits or complex stitching with frequent thread breaks and re-threading.
